The Slow Floor: Towards an Awareness of Bodily Movement through Interactive Walking Surfaces

چکیده
The rising rate of obesity world-wide is a significant problem for society and affected individuals. There is a large body of past and ongoing work into the use of technology to promote increased physical activity in an attempt to reverse this trend. We discuss our ongoing efforts to develop and evaluate low-complexity wearable ambient displays for personal and social activity monitoring. We consider the crucial, and often conflicting, design imperatives of ensuring that persuasive wearables are noticed by the user, providing some level of privacy, and respecting the user’s body and their personal and social image. drawing spaces experiments in presence and awareness of body and space in mixed realities
The interactive installation “Drawing Spaces” investigates strategies for creating a bodily sense of presence and awareness in networked space created through intersection of shared physical and virtual spaces. This paper presents two „Drawing Spaces“ experiments: 1) a configuration where realtime generated virtual space mediates participants’ interaction in a shared physical space (exhibited a...
متن کاملThe Influence of Horizontal Velocity on Inter-Lower-Limbs Local and Global Asymmetry during Walking
Purpose: Considering the influence of horizontal velocity on many biomechanical characteristics of walking, the purpose of this study was to investigate how inter-lower-limbs local and global asymmetry is influenced by changes in walking speed from slow to fast. Methods: Ground reaction force data and trajectory of attached markers of bilateral lower limbs of 15 right leg-dominant able-bodied ...
متن کاملEvaluation of a Viscoelastic Ankle-Foot Prosthesis at Slow and Normal Walking Speeds on an Able-Bodied Subject
Objectives: This paper describes further improvement and preliminarily evaluation of a novel viscoelastic ankle-foot prosthesis prototype. The objective was to control the ankle hysteresis at slow and normal walking speeds. Methods: Inspired by the ankle biomechanics, in which the hysteresis differs based on the gait speeds, a manually damping control mechanism imbedded in the prosthesis for...
متن کاملThe Effect of Modified Floor Reaction Ankle Foot Orthoses on Walking Abilities in Children with Cerebral Palsy
Objectives: This study was designed to evaluate the effectiveness of a modified floor reaction ankle foot orthosis (FRAFO) design on gait performance in children with cerebral palsy. Methods: Eight children with cerebral palsy wore a modified FRAFO bilaterally for six weeks. Motion analysis was used to assess the immediate effectiveness of the orthosis on improving gait and also following si...
متن کاملThe Effect of Metapragmatic Awareness, Interactive Translation, and Discussion through Video-Enhanced Input on EFL Learners’ Comprehension of Implicature
It is substantiated that particular features of pragmatics are teachable, and instruction is both necessary and effective. Determining what kind of intervention is most effectual for facilitating learners’ pragmatic development has been a central issue for researchers. To respond to the inconclusive findings in intervention studies and to extend the instructional studies in L2 pragmatics to les...
